Songs From and For Daddy (Day 1)

Something that has been central to my relationship with my father over the years has been music.

Most of my musical taste was established by listening to tapes in his truck while we drove around town or on road trips.

This coming Sunday is Father’s Day and Daddy’s birthday is a few days after that.

Every day between now and then I am going to share a song that reminds me of him. Some of them are going to be songs that he introduced me to. Some of them are going to be songs that just remind me of him when I hear them.

The first of these in “Convoy” a song by CW McCall.  When I was a kid Daddy had a mixtape that was all of these great CW McCall songs.  Almost every road trip it got played over and over again.

There is something inside of my head that everytime I start the car up calls out “breaker, breaker 1-9, this here’s the Rubber Duck, you got a copy on me Pig Pen come on.”

And someday, I’ll have a CB in my truck.

Do they even still make CBs these days?
