Songs From and For Daddy (Day 2) – M.T.A.

This song is a representative of another mix tape that lived in the little red vinyl covered breifcase that Daddy kept under the front seat of the truck.

All it said on it was “Folk/Protest.”  It was a collection, and I know that this is going to blow your minds, of folk and protest tunes from the 50s and 60s.  I am sure that more tunes from that tape will get mentioned here.  It was a central element of my childhood (I’m trying to get Daddy to send photos of the linernotes so I can reconstruct the playlist).

But as I think about it, this song is special.  It is fun.  It is high tempo.  It has quirky and odd lyrics.  When I listen to this I can’t help but hear some of the punk tunes I’d listen to later.

The only problem with this song is that Daddy could never answer why if Charlie’s wife could had him a sandwich she didn’t had him a dern nickle.  I even remember suggesting she place it in the sandwich as a sandwich handoff might be a little easier than handing off a nickle.
